Petit Verdot has fallen out of favor in Bordeaux because of
its tendency to ripen later than the other classic varieties, which can be very
problematic in cooler or wet vintages.
Also, the shoots are often weak and short and struggle to fill the
wire. The name in French translates
loosely to the “the little green one” due to both of the aforementioned challenges. Thankfully, just as it was being ripped out
of vineyards in Bordeaux in the 1960s, it was planted experimentally in the new
world as a blending grape to provide aromatic lift and color. It has flourished since then and it is now
known as a very important blender that, given just the right spot, can really
shine on its own, like it does on our Estate.
The tiny berries of small clusters yield impossibly dark & complex,
yet amazingly balanced & yummy wines.
Some exotic spices join in on the fun...cardamom, star anise, violets,
sage & cinnamon notes add complexity to the dark red and black fruits. This was one of the most sought after
releases from the prior vintage, so we bottled up a bit more this time around
from the fantastic 2014 vintage.

This is E11even Wines:
I am so proud to announce the re-launch of E11even
Wines. This is a very personal project
for me. I feel like these wines have
been works-in-progress for a decade or more, only finally jumping from my
imagination and into the bottle just this year.
These new releases rank amongst the smallest production wines that I
have ever released. They are all Estate
Grown and crafted with the utmost care and precision. They truly represent the best that we can do
here, on the Curtis Estate, in the heart of Los Olivos. No expense was spared in the farming or the
crafting of these stunning wines. They
are rich and decadent, yet remarkably balanced, pure, and varietally correct. They speak softly of their variety and their
origins. They shout, “Drink Me!” These wines exemplify the Natural, Locavore
and Farm-To-Bottle movements. They are
grown in Los Olivos, Hand-Crafted in Los Olivos, and sold in Los Olivos by a
family that has been here for over 25 years.
We have decided to dedicate our newly remodeled Downtown Los
Olivos tasting room exclusively to these wines.
Andrew Murray Vineyards Club Members are offered complimentary tastings
in DTLO as a member perk. I urge you to
give them a try, before they are all gone.
While you are there, you can browse our updated collection of books and
bar accessories, including some of my favorite shakers, shrubs, mixes, and
bitters, while listening to vintage vinyl tunes. We look forward to seeing you soon!
We also have an E11even Wine Club in the works. Just 2 shipments or pick ups per year, each
containing 6 bottles. Selections will be
offered in the spring and the fall.
Membership will naturally be limited due to the tiny production of these
wines. Members will have priority access
to our new releases which will soon include a Petite Sirah and a Sparkling
Wine, as well as some other delicious surprises...Stay Tuned!
